A summary of the materials, construction standards and technical details that underpin Malbrook’s bespoke glazed extensions, orangeries, conservatories, roof lanterns, verandas and garden rooms.
Technical Information
For bespoke glazed extensions, orangeries, conservatories, roof lanterns, verandas and garden rooms.
Our after-sales department provides ongoing reassurance, and your conservatory, orangery, roof lantern, folding sliding doors or garden room installed in the United Kingdom by Malbrook Conservatories Ltd is covered by our 5 year structural guarantee. Please see our terms and conditions for full details.
Malbrook Conservatories fully appreciates the importance of selecting durable timber of the highest quality for our conservatories, orangeries and roof lanterns. Appropriate hardwoods are chosen from sustainable sources and all sections are machined and assembled using traditional joinery methods, reflecting our attention to detail. All timbers meet BS1186.
Timber sections are selected for strength and durability and are finished in a wide range of stains or paint colours to suit your property.
All units are manufactured and toughened to British Standards, are kite marked and meet BS6206 as required by Building Regulations. All units are softcoat with an argon gas filled cavity for thermal insulation.
Roof units are constructed using 4/6mm toughened safety glass incorporating a 16mm argon gas filled airspace, using Planitherm One softcoat units to one of the highest specifications in the industry.
Roof glass is held in specially formed rafter gaskets for a weather-tight seal. Externally, we use an aluminium rafter cap, polyester powder coated to complement your paint choice and provide a maintenance-free roof construction.
Wall units are constructed using 4mm toughened safety glass incorporating a 16mm argon gas filled airspace.
We can also offer further options, including self-cleaning glass.
Each conservatory and orangery door is fitted with a three-point security lock with lever handles, flush bolts and cabin hooks where applicable.
Each opening window is fitted with a casement stay and fastener, with a flip-over bolt for additional security. Fittings are available in various colour finishes.
We use cast iron, extruded aluminium or Marley Classic guttering to discharge water from the conservatory roof to ground level. All aluminium guttering can be powder coated to match your conservatory or orangery.
Orangeries and lantern lights require a quality flat roof construction. We construct an insulated roof area using PIR insulation, OSB3 sheet material and a grey fibreglass finish.
Where the conservatory or orangery abuts the house, we provide and install all lead flashing and box gutters where necessary. Code 4 lead is used for most flashings, while lead, reinforced EPDM or similar materials may be used for box gutters and valleys.
All contracts are painted or stained with three microporous water-based coats in our workshop, with final coats brush applied on site by our fitters. The choice of colour is yours.
Timber roof ventilators manufactured in our joinery workshop may be manually or electrically operated as required.
Once a contract has been agreed, a full survey is carried out by one of Malbrook Conservatories' experienced surveyors, who will prepare final drawings of the conservatory, orangery or garden room for your approval, together with detailed base plans for the builder.
Our qualified surveyors and engineers will specify any load-bearing and other structural requirements.
Where required, Malbrook Conservatories can apply for all necessary planning and listed building consents for conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms. We can also work with your architect, surveyor or builder as appropriate and advise on building regulations requirements.
We are fully conversant with heritage and refurbishment projects. Understanding planning requirements is an important part of our work and applications are included within our costs.
We reserve the right to change the specification without notice.
We would be pleased to discuss your requirements. All Malbrook projects are managed through our Reading office, with a single point of contact for customers across the South of England.
