100 years of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Malbrook - 100 years of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
The influence of the Chelsea Flower Show on English society, style, and design over the last 100 years has been far wider than just on our gardens. Whether you live in a country mansion or a city flat, the ideas showcased at this world-famous event have changed the way we use our living space.
100 years ago, the Conservatory or Orangery was a must for “gracious living” to show off exotic plants that Victorian plant collectors had brought home to England.
Soon, the owners of Orangeries and Conservatories wanted to use the light and airy new space to entertain in the Summer months, so the bigger plants (like the orange trees) had to be moved outside. In the Winter, the room was often too draughty and cold to sit in.
Using today’s technology, Malbrook Conservatories Ltd will design and build an extension to your home that will open up your garden all year round—a truly flexible space for entertaining, eating, or planting.
Thanks to the influence of the Chelsea Flower Show, we can all open up our houses into the garden,
to create more light and space and enjoy our plants and trees all year round.
